Cuvée Le Gentleman 2016, AOC Ventoux

Le Gentleman is our flagship red wine, made from the best and oldest plots of vines, all between 30 and 70 years old.

 

2016 is the first for us of several vintages from exceptionally dry and hot summers.  The wines are concentrated, voluptuous and richly structured with ripe tannins.  It was the last year of our formal conversion of the vineyard to organic farming.  The high quality of the grapes from this vintage reflect the improving structure of our vineyard soils.

 

The wine was fermented in stainless steel and some of it was then aged in breathable neutral vessels and approximately 12% for twenty months in previously used oak barrels.  The flavours are intense and complemented by the light use of oak.

Grape varieties
 

55% Grenache Noir, 35% Syrah, 5% Mourvèdre, 5% Carignan

Tasting notes

 

Dark cherry and berries, plums and notes of the garrigue. The elegant ripe fruit has hints of liquorice and spices including white pepper.

 

The wine has a mineral femininity which leaves a refined and long finish.
